On the 4th and 5th November, St Brigid’s took two teams of 3 to the NSW Inter-Schools Lawn Bowls Challenge held at Merrylands Bowling Club. The competition saw bowlers from schools across NSW come together for the state finals. The St Brigid’s team was selected after the success of our lawn bowls program during Inflame throughout this year where the students demonstrated skill and enthusiasm for a new sport.

The boys played 3 rounds of games against other competing teams in their section before the semi finals and finals. Rhys C, Leon M & Dean R topped their pool with 2 wins and loss and made it through to the finals for 1st to 4th. Unfortunately, they came up against some very talented bowlers with years of experience and came away from the tournament with 4th place. The other team with Mason S, A-Litkim S & Eddie A also performed well against some tough oppositions and came away in 12th place.

The boys enjoyed the social nature of the day while also employing a range of tactical and competitive strategies to get on top of their opposition. They took on all feedback and coaching given to keep learning and improving their game.

Eddie A was awarded the Umpire’s award for a student who demonstrated great potential in the sport. The boys were congratulated at the tournament for the way in which they represented the school and were also awarded Best Dressed for their formal attire complete with blazers.

They now look forward to competing at the CSBB Lawn Bowls event in a few weeks’ time. Who knows, maybe there’s a lawn bowls career waiting for some of them!
