Encouraging Student Voice at St Brigid’s: New Brochure Helps Students Know Where to Turn
At St Brigid’s Catholic College, we continue to nurture a culture where every student feels safe, supported and confident to speak up. As part of this commitment, we are pleased to share a new brochure designed to encourage students to speak up when something is worrying them and to understand clearly where they can turn for help.
This new resource was introduced during our recent School Assembly.
About the New Brochure FLYER LINK
The newly released brochure provides simple, accessible steps to help students understand what to do if something at school is affecting their wellbeing, friendships, workload, sense of safety, or general experience.
The brochure outlines a supportive, step‑by‑step pathway for speaking up:
Step 1: Talk to Someone You Trust
Students are encouraged to:
- Speak directly with the person involved if they feel safe
- Talk to a teacher or trusted staff member
- Ask a parent or carer for help in communicating with the school
Step 2: Seek Support if the Issue Continues
If the concern doesn’t resolve or more support is needed, students can approach:
- The Wellbeing Coordinator (Leader of Wellbeing)
- The School Counsellor
- A member of the School Leadership Team
They can also bring a parent, carer or friend for support.
Step 3: Speak With the Principal
For ongoing issues, students may:
- Speak with the Principal or a member of School Leadership
- Ask a parent or carer to support them in the conversation
Step 4: For Serious Concerns
For concerns about student safety, staff behaviour, or school-wide issues:
- Students should speak to the Principal or School Leadership immediately
- If they feel uncomfortable doing so, they may contact Safeguarding at safeguarding@dbb.catholic.edu.au
- Parents or carers may also contact the school directly for support.
The brochure reinforces three important rights for students:
- The right to be heard
- The right to feel safe
- The right to ask for help
Why These Resources Matter
Child‑focused support systems are strongest when they are clear, accessible and taken seriously. Broader educational guidelines show that empowering students to raise concerns helps create safer, more responsive school communities.
By offering this brochure and reinforcing its message through assembly and classroom discussions, St Brigid’s continues its commitment to fostering a community where students feel confident, supported and safe to speak up.
If you or your child would like more information or support, please reach out to the College office.
At St Brigid’s, every student’s voice matters—and we are here to listen.
