Pastoral Care & Wellbeing

Counselling Service

School counsellors can provide short-term and evidence-based support to assist students in:

-Building their coping, stress management and emotional regulation skills,

-Developing their skills to manage school-based relationship issues,

-Improving their knowledge of, and ability to connect with, appropriate community supports.

When students and their families have these skills and knowledge, they will have an improved ability to respond to stressful and difficult circumstances, be able to develop protective factors against mental health difficulties and overall improve their social and emotional wellbeing, as well as be better able to access support when needed. Evidence shows that children and young people who access mental health and wellbeing support services can improve their educational outcomes, compared to students who do not access services.

The School Counselling Program also supports students engage with learning by increasing their use of positive learning skills, and by improving the knowledge and use of positive behaviour strategies for their families and school communities. Families can then support children to attend and engage in school and seek support for children to address issues impeding their learning.
