Courage in Our Learning Communities
Throughout this term, our Senior Leadership Team has continued to visit learning spaces to see our Foundations for Inflaming Hearts & Minds in Christ in action. It has been wonderful to witness our core value for the term – Courage – being lived out by students each day.
Courage looks different for every learner. It may involve trying something new, speaking up, or persevering through challenges. During our visits, we observed students stepping outside their comfort zones, engaging in new tasks, and collaborating to solve problems. Across the school, students confidently shared ideas, asked thoughtful questions, and remained focused in their learning.
These experiences are helping students build confidence, strengthen teamwork skills, and foster a strong sense of inclusion. The thoughtful use of technology also supports students in developing responsibility and making informed choices.
Our teachers continue to create safe and supportive learning environments where students feel encouraged to take risks and learn from mistakes. This helps students understand that growth requires time, effort, and resilience—key aspects of courageous learning.
Recently, members of our school community attended a Message Stick Ceremony at MacKillop Warnevalle, where the message stick was passed on to our school. This meaningful experience deepened our understanding of courage in another important way. It takes courage to listen, to learn from others, and to walk together with respect and openness.
The message stick, a powerful symbol of communication and trust in Aboriginal culture, reminds us of our shared responsibility to build understanding and honour the perspectives of others. As a Catholic school, this connects strongly to acting with integrity and living out our values each day.
The experience also challenges us to show courage beyond the classroom—by promoting inclusion, respecting the dignity of every person, and standing up against injustice. Whether in learning spaces, on the playground, or within the wider community, we are called to act with fairness, compassion, and courage.
We are very proud of the way our students are demonstrating courage in both their learning and their relationships with others. We encourage families to continue these conversations at home—supporting children to try new things, ask for help, include others, and stand up for what is right.
