Three St Brigid’s teams travelled to Narrabeen to compete in the CSBB Rugby 7s Gala Day. It was fantastic to see such strong interest in the carnival, allowing us to field two Under 14 boys’ teams and one Under 16 boys’ team. The overcast conditions were ideal and fortunately the weather remained dry throughout the competition.

The Under 16 team faced an early setback with a team member suffering an ankle injury in the opening match, ruling him out for the remainder of the day. Despite this disappointment, the team rallied admirably and produced a competitive performance against a strong Mater Maria side, narrowly missing out on victory. The boys remained competitive throughout the day but were ultimately unable to progress to the knockout stage. Finn S and Luca K were outstanding in defence, while Sam F carried the ball strongly and posed a threat throughout the competition.

The Under 14B team enjoyed a rewarding day of Rugby 7s, with many players experiencing the format for the first time. After facing strong opposition in their opening two matches, the boys responded well and produced their best performance of the day against St Leo’s in their third game. A special mention goes to Brando A, who demonstrated exceptional positivity and encouragement throughout the carnival. The team showed great potential and a willingness to learn throughout the day.

The Under 14A team had an outstanding tournament, winning three of their four pool matches to secure a place in the semi-finals. Facing a strong St Peter’s side, the team dug deep to earn a hard-fought victory and progress to the Grand Final. Despite a determined effort, an excellent St Edward’s team proved too strong, with our boys finishing as runners-up, an excellent achievement. Henele F and Harry P were instrumental in attack, an impressive feat given that both are Year 7 students competing against older opponents. Connor D and Lachlan R were outstanding in defence, while Jett O and Kai W consistently threatened with the ball in hand and attacked brilliantly throughout the tournament.

Congratulations to all students who represented the College so proudly. A sincere thank you to Mr Devlin, Mr Short, Mr Philpot and Alexah K for coaching and supporting the teams throughout the event. Their commitment helped make the day a fantastic experience for all involved.
