Catholic Identity

Faith Life at St Brigid’s Catholic College

At St Brigid’s Catholic College, our motto, “Inflaming hearts and minds in Christ,” is the heartbeat of our faith community. It inspires us to live with purpose and compassion, echoing the final line of our College Prayer:
“To ensure that our world is a better place for our having lived.”

Living Our Mission

We are committed to nurturing a vibrant Catholic identity through:

Learning from St Brigid: Her life and values guide us to a deeper understanding of Christ, who is alive in our world today.
Engaging with Scripture: Through the Word of God, we find hope and inspiration to live life to the fullest.
Excellence in Religious Education: In partnership with the Diocese of Broken Bay and aligned with the Towards 2025 framework, our Religious Education program is dynamic, rigorous, and rooted in Evangelisation and Catechesis.
Social Justice in Action: We follow Christ’s example by serving others through meaningful social justice initiatives.
Prayer and Liturgy: Our liturgical life is central to our community, fostering a spirit of unity and a commitment to the common good.

 Faith in Daily Life

Our Catholic tradition is encountered daily through:

Sacrament, Word, and Prayer: These are foundational to our College life.
Sacred Symbols: Visible throughout the school, they remind us of our connection to the Church.
Parish Partnerships: We are blessed with strong ties to St Mary of Perpetual Succour, Toukley, and St Brendan’s, Lake Munmorah—just across the road from our College.

Celebrating Our Faith

We gather regularly to celebrate and reflect:

Major College Masses: Including our Feast Day, Assumption, Year 12 Graduation, and Celebration Masses.
Mentor Group Masses: Each group has the opportunity to participate in their own Mass.
Weekly Staff Prayer: A time for spiritual reflection and unity.
Liturgies: Marking the Church’s Liturgical Year and significant community events such as Lent, Easter, ANZAC Day, and NAIDOC Week.
Religious Education: A Journey of Faith and Learning

Religious Education program

Vision Of Our College: For each child to leave with a clear understanding of who Christ is and how they can be disciples that make the world a better place.

Purpose for Our College:

  • To empower students, staff and parents to develop higher literacy requirements so they can successfully engage with scripture.
  • To demonstrate skills and dispositions that provide students with the opportunities to shape their faith and make a difference to the world today. Our Motto ”Inflame our hearts and minds in Christ”
  • Religious Education in Years 7 to 10 focuses on “Evangelisation and Catechesis” which is inline with the Diocese of Broken Bay’s Towards 2025 Framework that is both academically rigorous and innovative, bringing into dialogue faith and life.
  • In Years 11 and 12 students can continue with their Catholic course from previous years by doing CATHOLIC THOUGHT 1 or 2 Units (Non-ATAR) OR doing the one or two unit BOSTES NSW Studies of Religion course.

Other ways we strive to meet these goals includes:

  • Opportunities for the celebration of the sacraments of the Eucharist.
  • Catholic Schools Youth Mission (CSYMA).
  • Faith Formation program for students in Years 9 and 10.
  • Faith and Mini Retreat Days for Years 7-12.
  • Residential Retreat experiences for Year 12.
  • Youth Ministry Group
  • A host of creative and prayerful liturgies that help students further understand and celebrate their faith.
  • Commitment to supporting our local St Vincent de Paul Societies initiatives, Project Compassion and Catholic Mission throughout the year.
St Brigid’s Prayer

Woman of wisdom and compassion, steward of God’s precious gift of Creation
Peacemaker where turmoil reigned, Light of hope to those who suffered
You ignited passion for learning, empowering those in your care
Inflame our hearts and minds in Christ
So that we may have the courage to live out our call to love as His disciples
And ensure that our world is a better place for our having lived.
Amen.
