The commissioning of our new student leaders at Mass was a significant and inspiring occasion for our school community. Celebrated by Father Tomy and surrounded by staff, students, families, and parish members, our newly appointed leaders formally accepted their responsibility to serve others and lead by example. The ceremony provided an opportunity to reflect on the qualities that make an effective leader and the important role our student leaders play in shaping the culture and spirit of our school.

As we gathered in faith, we also celebrated the Feast Day of St Lawrence, whose life continues to inspire Catholics around the world. St Lawrence was known for his unwavering faith, courage, generosity, and commitment to serving those in need. Rather than seeking recognition or status, he dedicated himself to helping others and living the Gospel through action. His example reminds us that true leadership is not about authority but about service.

The commissioning ceremony was a powerful reminder that leadership is more than holding a title or wearing a badge. In a Catholic school, leadership is about serving others, acting with integrity, and using one’s gifts to make a positive difference. As our student leaders accepted their roles, they were encouraged to look to the example of St Brigid as a model of Catholic leadership.

St Brigid is one of Ireland’s most beloved saints, renowned for her kindness, generosity, hospitality, and deep faith. Throughout her life, she demonstrated a remarkable commitment to caring for those in need, welcoming others with open arms, and building communities where people felt valued and supported. Her actions reflected a belief that every person deserves dignity, respect, and compassion.

These qualities are at the heart of effective student leadership. Like St Brigid, our leaders are called to be generous with their time, attentive to the needs of others, and willing to put service before self. They are entrusted with the responsibility of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where every student feels a sense of belonging.

St Brigid’s courage and determination also provide an important example for our student leaders. She used her gifts to bring people together, solve problems, and make a positive impact on her community. In the same way, our student leaders are called to lead with confidence, speak up for what is right, and encourage others to be their best.

As we celebrate the commissioning of our new leaders, we pray that they will be guided by the spirit of St Brigid throughout the year ahead. May they lead with kindness, serve with humility, and inspire others through their words and actions.

We congratulate our newly commissioned student leaders and thank them for their willingness to serve. We look forward to witnessing the positive contribution they will make to our school community as they embrace the values of Compassion, Courage, Stewardship, and Wisdom that St Brigid exemplified so beautifully.
