Illegal E-Bike, E-Scooter & Unregistered Motorbike Riding
We are aware of an increase in unlawful e-bike, e-scooter and unregistered motorbike riding occurring in our Command.
We would like to remind the community that riding e-scooters, unregistered motorbikes (petrol or electric), or unlawful e-bikes on roads or road-related areas (including footpaths, shared paths and cycleways) is prohibited. Fines can exceed $3000, and parents may also be held liable.
Lawful e-bikes may be ridden on road-related areas by persons under 16, but must be used safely and responsibly.
Police will respond to all reports of this activity with the assistance of Polair to monitor, deter and enforce any breaches of road legislation. This includes aerial monitoring, direct Police engagement, and follow-up investigations using images or footage provided by the public.
We encourage parents to speak with their children about the risks and legal consequences, and to ensure they do not participate in these activities. Members of the public can forward images or footage to Police via the Crime Stoppers portal or report live information on 1800 333 000 or the Police Assistance Line 131 444.
