Year 7 Transition Program

Taster Day

At St Brigid’s, we understand that transitioning from primary to secondary school is a big step. That’s why we offer a thoughtfully designed Year 7 Transition Program, beginning with our popular Taster Day.

What is Taster Day?

When your child reaches Year 6, they’re invited to join us for a Taster Day—a fun and engaging opportunity to experience a day in the life of a St Brigid’s student.

During the day, students:

  • Participate in a variety of classes and hands-on activities
  • Explore subjects like AgricultureScienceSport, and more
  • Meet our friendly teachers and support staff
  • Begin building connections with future classmates

Whether they’re planting seedlings in Agriculture, conducting exciting science experiments, or getting active in PE, students leave Taster Day feeling more confident and excited about starting secondary school.

Why It Matters

Taster Day helps ease the transition by:

  • Reducing anxiety about starting secondary school
  • Familiarising students with our campus and routines
  • Encouraging friendships and a sense of belonging

We believe that early, positive experiences make all the difference—and Taster Day is just the beginning.

Orientation Day

Welcoming Our Future Year 7s

Once your child has received their Letter of Offer to join St Brigid’s, they’ll be invited to attend our Orientation Day—a key part of our Year 7 Transition Program designed to help students feel confident and connected before their first day.

What Happens on Orientation Day?

Orientation Day is all about building familiarity and friendships. Students will:

  • Meet their future classmates and begin forming connections
  • Be assigned to one of our four HousesTerryWalkerKildare, or Lakes
  • Participate in fun icebreaker games and team-building activities
  • Be guided through the Student Handbook, ensuring everyone understands expectations, routines, and support systems

Our staff and student leaders are there every step of the way to answer questions, offer encouragement, and make sure every student feels welcome.

Setting the Stage for Success

Orientation Day helps students:

  • Feel a sense of belonging from day one
  • Understand the values and culture of St Brigid’s
  • Begin their high school journey with confidence and clarity

It’s a day filled with energy, excitement, and the beginning of many new friendships.
