On Anzac Day our College community honoured the spirit of the ANZACs at Doyalson RSL. Together, our students and staff marched with pride, for the men and women that made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

We would like to commend our College Captains, Tom and Laura, who represented with their inspiring speeches. They spoke with eloquence and respect. Their words resonated with everyone in attendance, reminding them of the dedication and bravery of those who served.

We are immensely proud of everyone who participated today.

Lest we Forget.

Their hard work, dedication, and skill have brought them to this significant milestone. It is a clear reflection of their exceptional talent and commitment to the sport.

National Age Championships

By | News, Sport | No Comments

The final week of Term 1 was a busy one for everyone, but it was even more so for Kye Mc, who was battling it out in the pool at the National Age Championships on the Gold Coast!

Thanks to Cathy, Kye’s supportive mum, we were able to witness Kye’s impressive performance in the pool. The Championships were live-streamed on 9now, and Cathy kindly shared the schedule with us. From Mr Murdoch’s office to the Boardroom, Staffroom and even the playground, we all tuned in to watch Kye compete in the 400m Freestyle and his favourite event, the 200m Freestyle.

Kye’s performance was nothing short of spectacular and we believe he broke some of his personal bests, which is an amazing feat at a national level. It was very exciting to be able to rally behind Kye from the College.

We are all immensely proud of Kye’s accomplishments in the pool. Keep making waves Kye!

Central Coast Careers Expo at Avondale University!

By | News | No Comments

On Tuesday, April 9th, students from Year 10 had the exciting opportunity to attend the CCGT & Avondale University Central Coast Careers Expo.

This event provided a unique opportunity for our students to delve into a world of possibilities. They explored information from various career and post-school education services, igniting their curiosity about potential career paths.

As expected, our students represented the college well, making us proud! The day flowed smoothly, and we hope they gained valuable insights (and perhaps a few freebies) to shape their future endeavours.

Lastly, let’s send our warm wishes to Mr. Evans!  We hope he recovers swiftly from the sugar rush induced by those irresistible free jelly beans!

Active Student Participation!

On the last day of Term 1, 12 of our enthusiastic Year 10 students joined St Brendan’s for their exciting Bike and Scooter Day.

This event was expertly managed by trained staff, and our students had the opportunity to assist under their watchful eye.

The activities were designed to be safe, inclusive, social, and adaptable for all ages and abilities. All the activities took place in the turning circle and around the oval at St Brendan’s. Our students were stationed around the course, enjoying the chance to be involved in the day’s fun. They all had a great time.

As a College, we love the opportunity to be involved in these fun days, organised by our primary schools. And we appreciate that our primary schools continue to invite our students to assist, it says a lot about how we are represented in the community.

Kudos to our student helpers for contributing to another successful event and making the College proud. Thank you.

College Taster Day

By | News | No Comments

On 10 April 2024, St Brigid’s College welcomed Year 6 students from our surrounding schools to experience a day in the life at our College. We are thrilled to share that our Taster Day for Year 7, 2025, was a huge success with lots of positive feedback from both Parents and students.

Students had the chance to explore the College, meet teachers and current students, and experience the wonderful academic and extracurricular activities available to them as students of St Brigid’s Catholic College.

The highlight of the day had to be the smiles on the students’ faces and the positive feedback we received from both parents and students.

A big thank you to everyone who made this day possible and to all the students for their enthusiastic participation. We can’t wait to see you again!

Stay tuned for more updates and remember, enrolments are filling fast!

Netball Stars

Jade P from Year 9 and Sienna B from Year 10 showcased their exceptional talent and dedication in netball at last weekend’s 2024 Your Local Club Regional Academy Games in Wagga Wagga.

Despite being from different divisions, both girls left a lasting impression.

Jade’s team displayed an impressive streak, remaining undefeated throughout the competition. Sienna’s team also demonstrated remarkable skill, losing just two games over the entire weekend.

The girls were part of a 120+ strong team of athletes, representing the Central Coast Academy of Sport across a range of sports.

A big congratulations to both Jade and Sienna on your outstanding achievement. We are immensely proud.

AP Message- End of Term

By | AP Message, News | No Comments

I am always amazed by the pace of each term- they seem to fly by. As we approach the last week of Term One, I would like to thank you for your continued support as we work together as a community in elevating our expectations and transforming the young people we raise and teach. The first term of each year is always busy, and the students College calendars fill quickly. Many incredible events have taken place because of the hard work and dedication of staff and students, and I am grateful that we can offer these opportunities. These offerings are integral to what builds our community and your support at events is vital for us to work in close partnership.

On Tuesday our staff were fortunate to work alongside the Central Coast CSBB Secondary schools in a professional learning capacity around themes of consistency in allocation of grades. This presentation was delivered by NESA, our NSW education governing body and it reinforced the important practices that we maintain at the College. Staff Development Days are integral to improving our teaching practice, the learning opportunities for the students, and how we report on their achievement. These days ensure that we are providing the very best education and standards we can for the students.

One of the key takeaways from the day was the importance of reporting on our students learning and outcomes and ensuring that our staff and community alike have a greater understanding of what these grades mean for students, the feedback we provide and the support we can offer the community in understanding these.

Our academic reports have always included the breakdown of the common grade scale to show what the student has achieved in the semester. These grades provide a point in time snapshot of where the students are based on the outcomes and content taught.

How we grade has changed over time, and I know the understanding of what a grade means has also been further developed for teachers. It is important that we understand the grading system, what it means for the students and most importantly what the students do next. Below are the NESA Common grade scale descriptors that we use at the College to support our reports. It is important to note that grades do not represent a number, a pass or fail, but a description of where the student’s achievement level is based on two areas.

  1. depth of knowledge and understanding and
  2. the range of skills that are typically demonstrated.

Common Grade Scale | NSW Education Standards

This will be a topic of discussion for our Parent Engagement meeting early next term. At this meeting, we will discuss the importance of the NESA grade descriptors and changes in curriculum reform. The Year 12 Mid-course reports will be available late next week. Look out for this on Compass under your child’s profile.

With the last week of the term closely upon us, I would like to wish everyone a safe and restful break.

Regards,

Alex Walters
