Groovin the Green!

Welcome to our final edition of Spark News for Term 1. Next fortnight we will release our Termly Magazine, Illuminate, where we will showcase the highlights from a very eventful Term.

Please take a moment to read through our recent news and event articles, and I sincerely thank everyone involved in these activities.

Finally, I invite all St Brigid’s families and the broader community to our inaugural ‘Groovin the Green’ festival on Friday 31st March from 3.30 pm at St Brigid’s. This event promises to be a fabulous evening for the whole family, so I look forward to seeing you there.

God bless you and your families.

Mr Adam Murdoch
College Principal

Groovin the Green

By | News | No Comments

We are only one week away now from the inaugural “Groovin the Green” festival to be held at the College.  I have no doubt this concept will continue to grow over the years into something much bigger than what most people can currently envision but it has to start somewhere.  That somewhere is next Friday evening and it needs the whole community to get behind it and show the support that St Brigid’s and St Brendan’s are famous for.

These types of events are about having fun, providing entertainment, promoting both schools, collaborating together, etc, etc.  Having said that, the most important reason for hosting “Groovin the Green” is to build community.  We want to ensure there is a symmetry between the two schools, we want all of our community to feel at home in our schools, we want to breakdown and potential barriers that might be perceived to exist between home and school, we want to open our schools to the wider community and invite them to join with us even if it is just for one evening each year.

We appreciate that most families lead very busy lives but we encourage you to find the time on Friday 31st March to come along to the College with your family and friends and simply enjoy the opportunity to share some quality time together.  There will be a wide range of food trucks, live bands, market stalls, fun games, a magic show, a petting zoo, facepainting, the College café will be in operation and so much more.  It will be a great way to entertain the kids for a couple of hours at minimal expense.

In anticipation of this evening I want to pay a huge thank you to all of our staff who have been busy preparing fun activities for this event.  A special mention must also go to Gemma Murphy (Schools Marketing Officer) and Lyndall Benton (Business Manager), these two ladies have been instrumental in bringing this festival to fruition.

Finally, I look forward to welcoming you to the College next Friday for what is sure to be another important milestone in the life of our school.  For those NRL fans amongst us, I’m sure we can get the Raiders / Panthers game up on a screen somewhere from 6pm and we’ll have you home in front of the telly for the Sea Eagles / Knights game scheduled to kick off at 8pm.

Celebrating Harmony Week

By | News, Wellbeing | No Comments

A SPECIAL REPORT: Celebrating Harmony Week

Harmony Week is celebration held annually in March across Australia. It’s aimed at promoting diversity, respect and inclusiveness. This event is an excellent opportunity for parents to teach their children about different cultures, traditions and customs. The goal is to encourage everyone to appreciate and celebrate differences and promote a sense of community and belonging for everyone.

During Harmony Week, there are a number of events and activities held to bring people from different cultures together. These activities include multicultural food festivals, cultural performances, art exhibitions and workshops. Participating in these events helps children to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse communities that make up Australia.

As a parent, you can engage your children in discussions about multiculturalism and encouraging them to ask questions. Promoting a more harmonious and inclusive society, can help children grow up with a greater appreciation for the richness and diversity of Australia’s cultural landscape.

This Special Report hopes to instil positive values and create an opportunity to start a conversation with your child about understanding diversity and multiculturalism.

We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this Special Report, and as always, we welcome your feedback.

If you do have any concerns about the wellbeing of your child, please contact the College for further information or seek medical or professional help.

Assemblies and House Challenges

By | News | No Comments

There have been so many students receiving merit awards at assembly, and we couldn’t be prouder.  Keep up the great work!

Our students have been singing and dancing to a new song “Living on a Prayer” which they have been loving.  It is great to see our school spirit shine through.

Mr Lynch has introduced a student of the week wheel where two student names are automatically selected, and those students get to have one of our Senior Leaders sit in on a lesson of their choice and take their notes.  What a great prize!

Walker have been on a winning streak at the last few Friday house challenges.  This week Kildare wasn’t far behind followed by Terry and Lakes.  Stay tuned to see who the winner of next week’s house challenge is.

It is lovely seeing a wide variety of students getting involved and having a go at our weekly house challenges.  Thank you to the house advocates who put in a lot of time and thought getting these activities ready each week.
